Welcome to my blog! The main focus of this blog will be about homeschooling and special needs. It’s about encouraging and inspiring those of us who are raising square pegs – kids who don’t fit in with mainstream America- be it by default or by choice. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2. I am doing both – one child has physical and cognitive challenges and my two other children are (thankfully!) not your average teenagers.
I am a mom to three and wife to one. I lean to the unschooling side of things – believing that we are all born with a joy and desire to learn. Learning is always happening, not just at certain times of the day in a classroom. I believe that as we are all individuals, there cannot be a one size fits all plan for education. Homeschooling has enabled me to meet my children’s individual needs and encourage them in finding out their own particular brand of genius. It has also enabled them to develop their own minds, opinions and values without the interference of “peer pressure.” It’s a bit like the greenhouse – a safe place for plants to grow until they are strong enough to be planted in their permanent place. I have no goals for my children other than that they love God and are happy and engaged in things of value to them. In helping them to explore their interests and strengths, they can discover the perfect place for themselves.
In addition to homeschooling and raising kids, I enjoy quilting, reading and playing games. My happy place is working on a quilt or spending a day at the ocean. I’m so thankful for the life I have.
I hope to be of help as you seek the best for your family.
Thanks for stopping by!
